Road debris can cause serious car accidents and extensive damage to your vehicle, from fallen objects; trees, and/or animals on the road. Here are a few ways to be vigilant and avoid critical issues related to debris on the road.
- Maintain at least a 3-4 seconds following distance.
This allows you to see potential objects on the road ahead and increase your reaction time. Overreacting to avoid debris can increase the chances of losing control of your vehicle and make the matter worse.
- Safely reduce your speed
before you make contact with any obstructing objects. Steer your vehicle in the open space on the road to avoid colliding with any other car.
- Avoid driving on the road or highways between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
This is the time where most people transport or haul heavy items such as furniture or construction equipment.
- Make sure your vehicle is well maintained
and safe to drive, this will avoid parts of your car from falling apart on the road.
